Dr Tony Sewell CBE chairs the charity Generating Genius and lead the government’s Commission into Race and Ethnic Disparities which reported in March 2021.
He began his career as a schoolteacher in Brixton and spent many years in teacher training. He has published widely on the experience of boys in education. In 2012 the then London Mayor, Boris Johnson appointed Tony to chair his Education Inquiry into London schools. Its final report led to the establishment of the £24m London Schools Excellence Fund, which sees high performing schools working with partners to help raise standards of teaching in other schools.
As chair of Generating Genius Tony works to promote educational opportunities for talented and able students from disadvantaged backgrounds. He is also a trustee of the National Museums of Science and Industry and makes frequent appearances in national broadcast and print media, including the BBC’s Any Questions, Newsnight, the Guardian and the Daily Mail.
